Liam Neeson is a Badass

Yep. Inked it. Ever since Taken, Liam has been playing characters I kinda want to hang with. Maybe we’ll hit up a bar and wear tight pink t-shirts just to see if anyone messes with us. Then, kapow. Liam goes Wolverine and tapes broken bottles to his knuckles and kicks some ass while I finish up my mozzarella sticks and pay the bill. I don’t know – call me if you’re bored Neeson. He isn’t all tough. Schindler’s List alone will tell you that much, and recently, he did this hilarious video with the bearded Englishman, Ricky Gervais – you might remember him for his work on 2008′s Grand Theft Audio IV.

His latest venture, The Grey, crashes his character, Ottway, into the Alaskan wilderness where he and a group of oil-riggers have to battle the weather, injuries, and a pack of wolves. I expect nothing less than awesome. Tapped to lens the feature was Masanobu Takayanagi alongside director Joe Carnahan, while production sound mixer Michael Williamson and boom operator Martin Lacroix provided the audio tracks. The team looks like they put together a fun “in yo face” action-thriller.

Trailer: Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Director David Gelb, who also served as the DP, teamed up with Magnolia Pictures to release a documentary about a legendary sushi chef in Japan named Jiro. The story tells us of a creative sushi chef and his rise to become one of Japan’s national treasures. Though Jiro is still seeking the perfect piece of sushi, the salivating delicacies of sticky rice and perfectly sliced fresh fish on display make me want to rethink next year’s vacation. The trailer reminded me of one of my favorite docs, Helvetica, and it’s ability to make you think a little deeper with some of the simpiler things you see and enjoy in everyday life. POP Sound stepped in to provide the post audio services headed by re-recording mixer Tim Hoogenakker. Supervising sound editor Darren Warkentin, foley editor Anthony Vanchure and sound editor Chris Johnston also joined in to recreate the signature sounds of the Japanese kitchen. Jiro’s Sushi is set to roll out in North American theaters March 9, 2012, be sure to check it out.

Trailer: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Big. Big fan of thy spy genre. Especially when it’s done right. “Tinker Tailor” is adapted from John Le Carre’s 1974 novel and by the looks of it, they’ve put together a film that’s quite exceptional.

Directed by Tomas Alfredson, the cast includes Gary Oldman as George Smiley and Colin Firth from The King’s Speech. Everyone looks to have brought their A game including Alberto Iglesias‘ whose creepy, enigmatic score is phenomenal. Tapped to DP the film was Hoyte Van Hoytema and John Casi provided the production sound mixing with Tim White running second unit. Boom ops Chris Murphy and György Rajna worked the sticks while Howard Bargroff provided the re-recording mix.

Set to hit theaters December 9th of this year, I’m really looking forward to seeing this Cold War thriller. Check out the trailer yourself below.
